Maintaining Reef Aquarium Parameters

Maintaining stable calcium and alkalinity levels is crucial for a thriving reef aquarium. I utilize a two-part solution for dosing both, supplemented with magnesium. Alkalinity is measured at least twice a week, while calcium is rarely checked due to consistent dosing. Magnesium levels are monitored once a month, or slightly more frequently.

Accurate measurements are essential. I prefer a consistent dosing approach for optimal reef health. Regular monitoring, although not fully automated, allows for precise adjustments as needed.

DIY Two-Part Dosing Solution Mixer

Previously, I mixed my two-part solutions in a bucket, a process that was often messy and resulted in uneven dissolving. To improve this, I created a custom mixing station using readily available materials and a magnetic stirrer. This ensures a completely dissolved solution, improving efficiency and consistency.

The current iteration involves a Uline bucket, a half-inch seal for easy pouring, and a magnetic stirrer. While functional, future improvements may include a more robust and automated system for improved user experience.

Polyplab Genesis Rock Booster Review

Polyplab’s new Genesis Rock Booster is a fantastic product for boosting beneficial bacteria in your reef aquarium. The packaging is well-designed and includes two nano ceramic blocks and a concentrated polyplab genesis bacteria. The ceramic blocks are exceptionally porous, providing ample surface area for bacterial colonization.

I have previously had positive experiences with Polyplab's genesis bacteria and anticipate similar success with the rock booster. The compact size and high density of the blocks are notable features. I plan to test these in my existing aquariums to assess their impact on bacterial diversity and overall reef health.

OASE Biomaster Thermal OAC Filter Issues

The OASE Biomaster Thermal OAC filter has consistently produced excessive micro-bubbles, despite multiple attempts at troubleshooting. I contacted OASE support, who suggested several fixes such as silicon grease and replacement parts, but none resolved the problem.

Even after replacing parts and implementing all the manufacturer's suggestions, this high-end filter continues to perform inadequately. I am very disappointed with this product's performance and reliability, a stark contrast to my experience with other filters. A replacement inlet may be the next course of action

Conclusion

This video covered several aspects of reef aquarium maintenance, including parameter control, DIY solutions, and product reviews. While the Polyplab Genesis Rock Booster showed promise, the OASE Biomaster filter proved disappointing due to persistent micro-bubble issues despite multiple troubleshooting attempts.

The two-part solution mixer and aquarium parameter maintenance strategies were effective and demonstrated the importance of consistent monitoring and adjusting. More testing and analysis are needed for the Polyplab Genesis Rock Booster to provide a comprehensive review.
